Almaty was founded in 1854 as Russian fortress. Till 1921 it was named Verniy then it was renamed by Soviet government to Almaty.

Today Almaty is science, historical, art, industrial and financial center of Kazakhstan. It has unofficial name "Southern Capital".

New district. Almaty has similar troubles with new constructions like Athens and Los Angeles because of relief there are not too much place to build new houses.

But mountains keep one menace. 19_Almaty_03-2014.jpg

This menace is mud flows. This one of the anti mud flow dam. It must stop stones and protect valley from destruction.

To protect Almaty and stadium from mud flows big dam was made.
