Dmitrov is an ancient town placed just 65km from Moscow at Moscow canal. It was founded at 1154 by Yuri Dolgorukiy (the same guy who founded Moscow 5 years earlier) and named by his son Vsevolod who had font name Dmitriy. 800 years ago it was powerfull fortress but later activity was moved to Moscow and Dmitrov became hick town. But anyway it is very interesting place with bright history. It also still has a Kremlin. Let's see main attractions.

Close to the Kremlin gates placed Alexander Nevskiy chapel (1868).

The heart of the Kremlin is Saint Virgin dormition cathedral. It was build at 16th century. Communists closed the cathedral in 1930th. It was returned to Russian Ortodox church in 1991.

Other part of the town is similar to other modern towns and doesn't have any interesting places.

At the Kremlin square there is an interesting performance. At the right side you can see two monuments placed opposite to each other.

It is Yuri Dolgorukiy founder of Dmitrov. He stays close to Kremlin walls.

And Lenin who looks at Kremlin. It looks like joke but it really seems like Yuri Dolgorukiy is ready to meet Lenin's attack to Kremlin. They even have identical pose :-)))

Anyway Dmitrov is very pleasant place to spend one day to see main attractions like Kremlin rampart, Cathedral and few monasteries. I like towns like Dmitrov which has some ancient history inside.
